What Is The Treatment For Hypothyroidism And Sudden Weight Gain?
Hi doctor, I recently did blood test because i was experiencing unexplained weight gain (despite a very healthy diet and exercise regimen). My tsh level was 1.24 (normal is 0.27-4.2), T3 is 1.29 (normal is 1.28-3.31), ft4 is 12.47 (normal is 12.0-22.0) I feel that my T3 and FT4 are all borderline low and since I also experience other symptoms of hypothyroidism, i might have it but the doctor dismissed my suspicions. A few months later when the weight gain persists despite my efforts, i went for another blood test with another doctor (this time she only tested for FT4) and it was 10.5 (normal being 9.0-25). This number would've been out of the range if using the previous range! I am convinced that I might have some form of hypothyroidism but no one believes me ...
Hello, Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read carefully your query and I understand your concern. I understand the weight problem that you have, but as I see form your thyroid hormone lab tests they are quite normal for both blood tests you made, fortunately you didn’t have any problem with your thyroid gland your doctors have right you didn’t have hypothyroidism. Your weight gain can be related with your diet, I recommend you to consume 5 portions of vegetable and fruits per day, consume them as snacks. Instead of red meat choose white meat and fish. Consume at least 8 glass of water; you can drink a glass of water before the meals. Prefer whole grain breads instead of white breads. Prefer boiled and baked foods instead of fried foods. Avoid the alcoholic drinks because, from alcoholics drinks you should choose a glass of red wine if you want to take alcoholics drinks. You should do at least 30 minutes of brisk walking every day. Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions. Kind regard, Dr .Marsida JANKO
