Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My fiance is a diagnosed bipolar and i believe he's having a manic episode. When i suggest that he gets treatment or sees his doctor or even goes to sleep at a regular time, he's very combative. He knows he's manic yet still won't do anything about it. What can we do?
In his case, he needs mood stabilizer like lithium or valproate to avoid further manic attacks. Better to take him to a psychiatrist and try to convince him. Sometime, patients like hypomanic or manic phase and due to this, they avoid medication. In his case, psychoeducation about the illness and medication is the best solution.
Thanks
