For the last 2 days I have a shooting pain behind my left ear. (stemming from the bone behind the ear). I am under quite a bit of stress at this time and worry it could be a stroke. I am a woman aged 58. Advil does not work to alleviate this pain. What should I do?
Hi. Thanks for your query. The most probable reason for shooting pain behind left ear can either be pus and pressure in the mastoid cavity called as mastoiditis or rarely of neurological origin. I would advice the following in such a situation.: Get an opinion of an ENT Surgeon. CT Scan of mastoids to determine the cause and get treated according. If there is no resolution with medications you may need surgery to relieve the pressure.
