My dad was diagnosed with Pneumonia he was taken to the E.R, two times already beceuse the first time the pharmacist gave him the medicine 4 days later and his cough got worse and this second time they gave him antibiotics for 3 days then they gave him amoxillin for 7 days hes feeling better but still feels phlegm in his lungs and he already finished his antibiotics should we take him back to the hospital to get more antibiotics or the cough is just going to go bi itself? He never had fever and the phlegm is white!!
Hello Your dad were diagnosed as a patient of pneumonia and took treatment for 14 days but still cough and phlegm present. Your dad took amoxycillin and other antibiotics . Cough and phlegm may be due to these reasons. 1 Tuberculosis , as this is most common cause of phlegm and cough particularly post pneumonitis ( pneumonia ) cases. Diagnosis can be confirmed by X ray chest , blood for C B C, E S R .Sputum examination for A F B. 2 Allergic bronchitis may be the next reason . Diagnosis can be confirmed by physical as well clinical examination by a physician . 3 Bronchiectasis is another reason of such infections . Get in Xray chest as well sputum examination. There are so many other reasons of such symptoms as pneumonia ( not resolved ) , asthma , rhinitis ( allergic ). In my opinion consult a primary care physician and get his opinion.
