What Is The Treatment For Redness And Tenderness In Inner Calf?
Hi I m 47, was doing some work and hit my inner calf with a hammer. There was a lump and tenderness almost immediately. A little red for a couple of days and then overall back to normal color. Now about a week and a half later it is red again, more red than it was and more tender than it was. Is this a concern?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for writing to us. A bruising occurs when capillaries in the skin or bone become damaged, allowing for swelling and minor internal bleeding. The signs that a bruised area has occurred include discoloration of the skin, tenderness or pain in the affected area, and swelling. If the pain is persistent or severe, a bone fracture may have occurred and medical attention will be necessary. This commonly occurs when the force from impact was severe. A fracture may be minor and only require immobilization and the RICE treatment, though more severe fractures can cause complications such as internal bleeding or nerve damage, and attention from a doctor will be necessary. Hope this helps you. You can consult me again directly through my profile http://www.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-saurabh-gupta/64132
