Hi doctor, I had some red acne marks on my face so I bought a product from neo strata with hyrdoquinone of 2% in it. It actually made small burn marks on my face (or thats what they look like) and it is even more red than it was before. I have fucidin cream from my doctor from home that I have just been putting on it hoping that it will heal it quickly. Is there anything you reccommend me getting or doing to help heal my face, it is drastically red and I am so embarrassed
Hydroquinone is an irritant and therefore can result in redness and irritation, specially in those who have sensitive skin and also sometimes resulting from overenthusiastic use.
I would suggest you to use a moderately potent topical steroid e.g Fluticasone propionate cream, twice daily for a few days. It would take care of the redness and irritation resulting from hydroquinone.
Thereafter, you may use either hydroquinone once daily OR you may switch to other skin lightening agents like Azaleic acid, Glycolic acid, Kojic acid etc which don't have irritation potential.
General measures would include: -Using a broad spectrum sunscreen, throughout the day. -Using a gentle cleanser like cetaphil cleansing lotion, twice daily.
regards
