What Is The Treatment For Small Bowel Obstruction?
My son had surgery for the first time16 days ago for small bowel obstruction. On Sunday a second surgery was done because he developed a second blockage. The fourth day after the second surgery and no major improvement. What are our options? The first blockage was caused by scar tissue from surgery as an infant, the second the intestine has stick to the stomach wall.
The abdominal surgeries are complicated ones in this regard that adhesions in the gut post surgery may complicate the surgeries and something which can't be predicted during or after the surgery. In children recovery is often faster due to rapid regeneration but adhesive complications are also more common. The following surgeries which he had gone through recently are only minor ones to remove the adhesions and initial complicated procedures are often not done however are unavoidable. Meanwhile anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics may be needed along with good post operative care.
Wishing him a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
