My throat has been feeling scratchy the past few days and I've been hoarse off and on. Since I use an Advair inhaler for asthma, I get thrush about once a year. I looked at my throat with a flashlight this morning and noticed that one of the circumvallate papillae appears to be black in color. Is this related to thrush? It doesn't appear "hairy" like it would if I had black tongue.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have itchy and scratchy throat which seems to be mainly due to bacterial infection or poor oral hygiene. It could be due to coinfection by fungal, however chances are less. I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene and do warm saline gargles. You should take antibiotic Amoxicillin for 5 days. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get routine blood tests and throat swab test done and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Avoid oily and sharp food. Drink plenty of fluids.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
