Hi,

In most cases sore throat is cured with most home treatments, However, if it becomes more worse and symptoms do not get better or the fever remains > 101 degree Fahrenheit, then you are advised to see your doctor. Though there may be numerous reasons of having sore throat and painful swallowing and fever, yet some of the reasons may be like common cold, flu, tonsillitis or throat infections like streptococcal infection. Infectious mononucleosis is another cause to be looked for.

For sore throat and painful swallowing we may try drinking plenty of fluids, warm saline gargles or sipping warm liquids like warm water or tea mixed with honey or ginger. For fever or body aches OTC acetaminophen or ibuprofen may be tried. However, if the symptoms become worse or are persistent, then we should be treated by a doctor and an antibiotic therapy may be needed for the cure of illness as well as to prevent complications like Rheumatic fever, kidney infection, damage to heart valves, meningitis as well as pneumonia etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
