This condition of your is called as granular pharyngitis which could be secondary to sinusitis, recurrent pharyngitis and acid reflux disease. You need to encourage him to drink plenty of warm water, avoid cold and oily items for few days. If he is having any symptoms of acid reflux, he should take proton pump inhibitor and a prokinetic.
