What Is The Treatment Of Underactive Thyroid ?
I have an underactive thyroid and on medication for life I guess. My late father had this also. I am working in a school for autism as a special needs assistant . I find this job extremely stressful due to being exhausted and the behaviours of the children very stressful. Mentally and physically I am drained as I have to have eyes at the back of my head. I am wondering would I be entitled to a disability allowance if I was to give up this job due to the stress etc

You have positive family history regarding thyroid problem.So get your thyroid function test to rule out it.
If hypothyroidism is present then thyroxine supplementation has to be given.
Use iodised salt if you are not using it.
Stress can aggravate thyroid problem.
If you are not like job you are doing then alternate job can be searched..
Try to be stress free.
Yoga and meditation also help.
Endulge your self in some activity daily.like walking , jogging, going to garden , meeting with friends etc.
For thyroid problem investigation needed and treated accordingly.
