General & Family Physician, Dr. Amarnath's Response
short answer: though you have removed 25gr of prostate through trans urethral resection of prostate(TURP) you have to continue medication like finastrde for non recorrence. detailed answer: finasteride is 5 alpha reductase inhibitor .5 alpha reductase is the enzyme which converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone. 6 months or more treatment with finasteride 5 mg is necessary to get the therapeutic results . difficulty urinating and difficulty to start urinating will improve after continuous intake of this drug for 6- 8 months. sopping the drug without medical advice will reverse the symptoms hope this explains regards Dr.Amarnath
