What Is This Swelling On The Neck That Flattened Followed By A Terrible Rash On Palms ?
My 20 year old daughter woke up with a large gumball sized lumb at base of left side of neck(by thyroid). she had reported ear and jaw pain and sore neck when she woke up and felt she slept wrong then we saw the lump. her neck began to swell on the left side from the lump to the back to the base of her head. the swelling is a curve about 2 inches wide. she went to the doctor he said no idea and gave her cephalex(something like that). he recommended she got an ultrasound but couldn't get in to get one no appt available. the next day she woke up and the lump was about 3 inches across but flattened out a lot and the swelling was worse and she now had a terrible rash on palm of hands that looked really gross like lots of warts or water blisters. only on hands. it hurt to swallow or inhale. we went to ER. 2 doctors said no idea, took her off cephlex, gave her two shots penicillin and recommended ultrasound but they don't do them on weekends. so that was friday and saturday. now last night she is worse and the lump is now bigger and more raised and there is one now on the other side with the same swelling that curves from lump at base of neck up her neck to base of back of head. when she swallows, the bump on the left pokes out and it looks like she is swallowing a raquetball. it is very painful to swallow or inhale but she can breathe easily. she has had no fever. she has no other swelling or pain or rash. the rash on hands did not respond to the two penicillin shots.
she does have a slightly enlarged tonsil on left side.
she had a baby 2.5 mos ago.
she had an implant in her arm less than a week ago to prevent pregnancy.
she is on no other medications.
please help. we had an appt today with the doctor for ultrasound and they closed due to bad weather.
Hi it could be related to the implant she had. She either had developed allergy to it or a secondary infection. If neither of them is true she needs to get evaluated for viral rash and lymphadenopathy. Hope this helps.
