Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had my first injection of Prolia and since then, am experiencing depression. I take anti-depressents for PTSD and have for a long time, but there doesn t seem to be a reason for me to be depressed. Taking Prolia is the only change there is in my life recently. Could this be a side effect? I ve spent 2 years on Forteo, 2 times and never had a problem, nor has any med I ve ever taken caused severe depression like this one may be. Could this be the reason for my sudden onset of depression? Is this drug interacting with my anti-depressents?
As per my clinical experience, the Prolia contains Denosumab, a specific monoclonal antibody used for treating osteoporosis in post menopausal women. There are significant number of side effects, common ones are as: - Headache - Nausea - Muscle cramps - Weakness - Tiredness - Altered calcium levels if kidney function is compromised - Others
The flare of depression sounds in relation with the Prolia itself and the same should be discussed with your treating physician as that may be possible to alter the drug metabolism pathway of anti depressant medicine used currently and hence its efficacy may have decreased.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
