What Leads To Loss Of Taste In Middle Of Tongue After An Anesthetic Shot?

More than a Month and half ago I got a filling on the bottom right side of my mouth. I got an anesthetic shot (of what exactly, I can't say). from that I can't taste anything on the middle of my tongue.

It's not numb; I can feel texture and temperature just fine. But I can't taste anything - and let me tell you, it's unpleasant to eat tasteless cheese! If I chew on other side I can taste just fine.

Hi..
Can understand your concern...

As per your complain the loss of taste sensation after an anaesthetic injection over the middle portion of the nerve can be due to injury to the Chord Tympani branch of facial nerve which supplies taste sensation to front two third of tongue..

As this nerves run its course along with inferior dental nerve which is blocked while doing dental procedures in lower teeth, there can be pricking of chords tympani and cause loss of taste sense..

There is also seen atrophy of fungiform papilla which contains taste buds..

It can take from weeks to months and at times every years for the nerve to heal and recover with normal functioning but mostly complete recover occurs along with recovery of the taste bud papillae..

You should relax and wait for some time.. Hopefully the taste sense will gradually improve..
But in case if there is no improvement at all you should consult a neurologist and get investigated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
