Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Leads To Swelling And Discolouration Of Foot After Injury?
I am a 46 year old female who had May Thurner Syndrom 2 years ago. I currently take a daily aspirin. I accidentally kicked a stake near the ground about 3 hours ago. The top of my left foot didn t seem swollen at the time. Very little skin was broken. 2 hours later it is very swollen (top of foot) and blue. I m guessing I popped a blood vessel. It doesn t hurt too much if I m not walking on it. I can t get my tennis shoe back on. I m currently icing and elevating. My question is, should I be concerned with my history of blood clot in my left leg? I have no blood disorders. Stents took care of the clot issue 2 years ago.
Slow swelling that too in blue color indicates a contusion caused by trauma aspirin prevents clot formation so the swelling appeared. Swelling may be a sign of fracture too. Thus, please go to an orthopedic surgeon and get detailed clinical examination and necessary tests like X-ray for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. For immediate pain relief, you can have a NSAID like Ibuprofen.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
