Hi, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

This type character starts from very early ages where the person keep on insulting friends and wants to get craze out of it. This is a type of identity crisis.

Just try to talk to him pleasantly. Discuss the situation how its hurting others. Openly explaining the situation at some convenient mostly solves the problem in such persons. but most of the time others just feel sad but never expresses him.
Try it out. keep on explaining him. be friendly but don't fight.
Try this, hope this helps you. Thank you.
