What Medications Are Advisable For Chronic Cough During Night-time?
Hi doc im 51 years old and suffering from clogged nose.....after taking guaffenisin...now a phlegm is present.....i took carbosisteine now...do i need to continue my expectorant?........and what medications do i need to have beter sleep while having cough at night?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have p chronic cough during nights. Well the biggest reason we cough more at night is simple: gravity .When we lie down, the gastroesophageal reflex kicks in because mucus automatically begins to pool . The best way to counteract this gravitational pull is elevation of head with pillow. Other reasons are asthma , upper respiratory track infection or post nasal drip .As you have clogged nose it seems to be due to chest infection/ chronic upper respiratory tract infection. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for acid reflux who may prescribe proton pump inhibitor or H2 blockers . Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist for upper respiratory track infection who may prescribe antibiotics along with anti histamine . For now keep your head elevated while sleeping and take stream several times a day .
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
