What Medications Can Be Taken For Allergies And Swelling Of Tonsils?

I had a sure throat for a day, thought it was allergies and realized it was my tonsils, they are really red and swollen, they always get that way anytime I get sick. I had a low grade fever yesterday, but none since. A little sneezing, but that s all. Should I go to a doctor or just let it run it s course?

Hi,

Sore throat followed by enlarged red tonsils can be due to the following reasons:
* Allergic as you have thought so
* Viral infection causing the changes
* Bacterial infection causing inflammation and infection
* You need to consult a doctor to decide which type of these has affected you so that a proper throat swab, tests of blood can add on to the proper diagnosis and thus proper management
* Take Povidone Iodine gargles [Antibiotics will be prescribed if there is suspected or diagnosed bacterial infection]
* Anti-inflammatory, supportive and symptomatic treatment in all such cases is needed
* Better to consult a doctor as you have asked for
