Hello;
welcome to HealthcareMagic
CML is chronic myelogenous leukaemia is a cancer of white blood cells and initially imatinib and now dastanib is the medicine needed to treat this disease which your father has been taking.As for the medicine whether it is working or not will be seen from his reports and you can discuss with your doctor in detail.The thing you can see will be the improvement in condition of your fathers health as well as his symptoms.
Thanks
Hello,
For the care of CML, imatinib is still used by most experts as first-line, and patients would then be "graduated" to dasatinib/nilotinib if they are intolerant or show resistance to imatinib. So, sprycel is one of the best available drugs for CML. But, as to whether your dad is responding, that is for his managing hematologist to determine.
My guess is, at 4 years, he should have achieved some of the milestones of therapy, but he has to be continually monitored to ensure continued benefit since no drug can currently cure CML.
Take care.
