What Might Be The Problem Having Dizziness While Taking The Prescribed Ceftin And Benadryl And Is There Anything I Can Do To Eliminate The Dizziness Without Avoiding Medications?

My doctor prescribed Ceftin (500) mg and benedryl tablets to relieve symptoms of an ear and sinus infection, and swollen glands. Although I have been taking the meds for 3 days now, while I feel better (throat and glands), I have been experiencing lightheadedness, nervousness and continued pressure/fullness in one ear. Is the dizziness associated with a Ceftin side effect? Can these two meds be taken together? Is there something I can do to eliminate the lightheadness while the meds do the work? I have never had any problems taking benedryl.

Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum.
It appears that you have the light headed ness due to the gastric irritation, drowsy ness due to the banadryl, or the infection of the internal ear, secondary to the sinusitis.
I advise you to consult an ENT surgeon for diagnosis and treatment. You may need to have an MRI, for diagnosis of otitis interna.
I advise you to consult your doctor for follow up, of the treatment.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms cifixime, phenylephrine, citrizine, and diclofenac sodium.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you

Hi,

Dizziness can be a side effect of Ceftin (cefuroxime) but it is not a common side effect. There is no harm in taking Ceftin and Benadryl together. There is nothing specific that can be done to counter the adverse effects of Ceftin and you will have to wait for the course of the antibiotic to be over. However you also need to keep in mind that the dizziness can also be due to the ear infection itself. Inner ear structures are responsible for maintaining the balance of the body and any infection can cause dizziness. If so, this will improve when the infection is controlled.

Best wishes.
