What Might Cause Delay In Menstrual Cycle?

I am 15 years old, and I had my first period Janurary of this year. Then In Feburary, I had my second period. Since Feburary, I have not had a period or any symptoms such as cramping or mood swings. I am an extreme athlete - a figure skater who skates Monday-Friday 8am - 4:30pm. Because I have not had my period in such a long time; a) should I be concerned b) dose this mean that I have gone back to having a high metabolism and am therefore able to eat a bit more freely likea young child?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hi,

In the first year after your menses begins, the cycles are usually irregular as the hormone pathway has not matured completely yet.

The other reason could be because of you being extreme athlete. You need to eat well and maintain normal BMI so that enough estrogen is secreted for normal periods to set in.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ramadevi Wani, OBGYN
