What Precautions Are Advisable For A Person With A VP Shunt For Hydrocephalus?
with a vp shunt for hydrocephalus at birth, are there any activity restrictions? my client states she was told not to lift anything too heavy. Currently, she broke her ankle and must use a 2 wheeled walker to avoid weight bearing through her fractured ankle. She says she can t because she is not allowed to do this due to the VP shunt when she was an infant. She is late 50s now.
The usual precautions for person with VP shunt indicates avoid weight bearing over head, control of blood pressure and regular follow up with physician for check up. Rest of the activities can be performed with avoidance of vigorous sports.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
