What Precautions Are Recommended After Having Unsafe Sex In Women?

I had sex approximately 12 days ago, and I tracked my period for when I would be ovulating and we had sex right in the middle of my ovulation time. Sex was un protected although he did not cum inside me but I am still very afraid because I know about pre cum and such. Is there anything I can do to ensure that I will not be pregnant?

Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
Having unprotected sex always carries a risk of pregnancy, and it is more risky when you have it during ovulation. Even though he has not ejaculated inside, the pre-ejaculate fluid containing sperms can fertilise and make you pregnant.
You should have taken an emergency contraceptive pill (morning after pill) within 72 hours (much earlier would be still better) of unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy from happening.
If that time has lapsed, it is not possible to do anything right now to stop pregnancy.
Now, you need to hope for to get periods in time, which makes pretty sure that you are not pregnant.
In case there is a delay in periods, kindly check the status of pregnancy by testing Urine for pregnancy, beta-HCG levels in blood and transvaginal ultrasound scan (TVS).
Unfortunately, if it comes positive, then your pregnancy can be terminated by means of two pills used for abortion (for pregnancy less than 12 weeks), but under medical supervision.
Kindly consult Gynecologist for help in this regard. Take adequate precautions next time when you indulge in such acts.
All the best.
