What Precautions Can Be Taken To Permanently Avoid Frequent Cold And Nappy Rash In An Infant?

I adopted a new born baby, who was fed on Lactogen for 1st 7days & was admitted to NICU for 8 days due to severe infection (symptoms vomitting & losses). Ever since, she has had a chest congestion / breathing problem (or wheezing ). Needs at least 2-3 visits to the doc in a month. Even during summer months she had the chest congestion & cud not be given curd etc, which people around me told to give her to increase the immunity of the child. She is otherwise a very cheerful child but keeps on having bronchital probs. Doc said, it may be some kind of allergy , which may be known only after observing her over the period. She has been prescribed, Mucolite, Levollin, Tminic, Sinarest, & many other antibiotic suspension medicines with Budasol naboliser. I really wish her health is taken care of at this age, that she does nt suffer when she grows up. She is now going to be 15 months & keeps on also getting nappy rashes . she was adv. eezzy nappy cream with every diaper change, but still the reddishness persisted. she was adv. HH Sone & then HH Fudic. Can u pse help with some precautions that can be taken to avoid this cold & nappy rashes permanantly.

For nappy rash, avoid using nappies at most time. Those old, traditional cotton langots are still best for babies. You would require to change them frequently but they are far more airy and less allergic. Especially during day time, when sun is strong, let the child move around naked for sometime. Third, never forget to keep the nappy area dry after cleaning child's bottom with water after bowel movements.
As for cold, get the child vaccinated against Flu every year on time. Avoid taking out the child out to crowded areas like malls and shopping places. Rest tell your Dr to rule out any milk protein allergies.

Hi Jyoti
I do understand your concern
A lot of children will have these allergies and they eventually outgrow them, so there is no issue about these persisting for a significant time.
For the nappy rash,
a. The best precaution is to avoid using the nappy. Instead, keep the area clean and dry and use only cotton underwear for your child. It may be a little messy. Do not apply powder after bathing the child. It would just make it worse. On the rash as such, you can apply vaseline jelly and nothing else

For the frequent cold,
a. Try and identify what increases the symptoms. identifying and avoiding the "allergen" ( the thing that she is allergic to or the thing which increases her symptoms) is key
b. Also, keep a humidifier in the room. If you don't have one, boil a pan of water in the room to keep it moist.

I hope I have addressed your concerns
Regards

Hi..jyothi.. the cause for the napkin rashes are many, but most common is due to excessive use of diapers, let the child free from diaper for some time in a day, this alone will reduce it.. also use mild soap, use water to wash during defecation and urination, never use tissue paper.. by above methods the rashes will decrease... try to do it for a week and see..

Take care..
