Hello, The presence of the gestation sac in utero rules out the presence of an ectopic pregnancy. In view of your irregular cycles, it may be difficult to judge the age of the pregnancy based on the dates. A sonographic assessment is more reliable. Going by the size of the sac, the pregnancy should be about 5 weeks and the yolk sac can be made out at this stage by an experienced sonographer. If it is not made out, a repeat sonogram should be performed after 10-14 days. Serial titres of serum beta-hCG should show doubling titres every 2-3 days if the pregnancy is progressing well, and this aids in the diagnosis. Hope this helps.
