Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Questions Should Be Asked During Physical Examination?
I am getting ready to have another physical. My female doctor always does the DRE, but never comments on what she feels. What questions should I ask? How long should the exam take? She usually rubs inside for at least5 minutes, and of course it causes an erection.
I am glad to hear that you are taking care of your health and getting yearly physical exams. The DRE is an exam to determine size and consistency and any abnormal lumps on the prostate. We do this in all males after the age of 50. If you are not that old then a DRE is not recommended. If after the exam you ask did she feel anything abnormal like was the prostate too big or were there any abnormal lumps. She should also take a small stool sample and do a test for blood in the stool.
Hope this answers your question. Please contact us again with your concerns.
