What Should I Take For Leg Edema With Antibiotics?

I have had leg edema for the last ten years and I am 78 years old.I just happen to take a medro pack for a bad cold along with an antibiotic and my legs within five days returned to normal. What caused this to happen? Now I have been off of the prednizone for the last ten days and my leg edema has returned again. I have taken an antibiotic alone before but my leg edema always stayed the same. Please explain!

Hi,

Thank you for providing the brief history of you.

A thorough clinical assessment is advised.

As you have edema from long 10 years it might be due to vascular insufficiency which needs an attention. As this vascular insufficiency can be due to vascular disease or may be cardiac weakness.

Well, when you had antibiotic this had let to improved metabolism and also urine output. By this the swelling has come down.

Also, when you have edema of lower limbs at the age of 78 this is more of a cardiac weakness and needs some general body conditioning exercises by which your swelling can come down.

In my clinical experience I see geriatrics and the leg edema is a common issue, but by performing some cardiac endurance exercises the edema drops and my patients even become functionally active.
