What Should Be Done About Numbness In The Penis After A Surgery On The Vas Deferens?

I have a friend who received surgery on his vas deferens almost a year ago. His penis has been numb since then. I m pushing him to get it re-examined by a doctor, but he says that it s not a big deal. He s only 18, and I m very worried that he s going to have permanent numbness in his penis. I am currently trying to find out what specific surgery he underwent, but I know that it has something to do with repairing a major tear in the vas deferens after a hockey accident. I will update my question when he returns to me with the name of the surgery.

Hello,

Numbing of the penis post-surgery is commonly due to irritation or nerve damage during surgery. If he is experiencing persistent numbness, he is advised to get it examined by the treating doctor. After evaluation he can be treated with medications that help to alleviate nerve related symptoms.

Certain exercises done under a Physical therapist can help manage better nerve function. He can be given injections for relief. The treating doctor may recommend surgery if numbness is due to significant nerve damage or scar tissue. Surgery may be necessary to correct it.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
