What Should Be Done For Yellow Color On Face And Back Of A 7 Week Baby?
My baby is 7 weeks old and still shows some yellow on her face and back, a serum bilirubin test at almost 4 weeks showed a total of 5.7, direct was 1.7 and indirect was 4.0 her pediatrician says her jaundice is gone when I took her at 6 weeks but I can still see some yellow around her nose when I press the skin, I'm also worried that the direct is more than 20% of the total, kindly advise. She is breastfed only. Thanks
Hi, Thank you for asking question on health care magic. About 60% babies develop physiological jaundice Usually it disappears by 10-14 days. If it persists beyond 14 days it is definitely pathological and requires thorough investigation. Better consult pediatrician and get to the correct diagnosis. Hope this answer will serve your purpose Please feel free to ask any more queries if required Take care Dr.M.V.Subrahmanyam MD;DCH Associate professor of pediatrics
Hai... By what you say definitely its reducing.. I put possibilities as such... 1. Prolonged physiological jaundice..reasons...low thyroid status etc. 2. Breast milk jaundice 3. I congratulate you on your knowledge about 20%...definitely u need to work up for neonatal hepatitis or cholestasis with a liver function test & PT...only bilirubin test doesn't help. Kindly see your pediatrician. .Happy to help anytime. If you are happy with my reply, kindly rate it.
