What Should I Do After Self-induced Vomiting?

I m a 20yo and male. What Should I do after self-induced vomiting?! I just self-induced vomited, the continuation of a series of the same over a period of a few months. MY HEART is FEELING UNCOMFORTABLE AND I HAVE TINGLING IN MY ARMS AND LEGS!!!!!!!!! I have read on the Internet, and in books that it is extremely bad for the body. I ve read WWW.WWWW.WW about the dangers of self-induced vomiting. I DON T WANT ANY PERMANENT OR IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO MY BRAIN OR BODY! I ve just cooked and eaten some Heinz s organic potassium-containing baby food bought from the local supermarket- pumpkin, sweet potato, beef, etc, and also eaten a Nutrilite Double X multivitamin and multisupplement. What else should I do now? IS there some optimal protocol I should follow after self-induced vomiting so as not to damage the various organ systems? P.S. I m not sure I have bulimia, because I vomit after eating something I feel is bad for my health, and i m concerned about my health rather than my appearance/weight. I ve got into a habit of eating before thinking and then when I think the food I ve eaten is bad for my health, I vomit them out.

You are correct, that self-induced vomiting can be very dangerous to your health. I strongly recommend that you obtain a full medical and physical exam to insure your electrolytes are within normal limits. As you have probably read, vomiting can lower your potassium levels among other things, and you can suffer a heart attack, not to mention rupture your esophagus and die.

The better question is how to stop vomiting after eating rather than what to do after vomiting, I believe. After you obtain a full physical exam, it would be wise to see a therapist who can properly diagnose whether or not you have an eating disorder. If you have an eating disorder, there are several behavioral things you need to do, as well as ways to change your thinking so that you can stop this very dangerous practice. Typically there are many psychological issues at play, such as low self-esteem, problems dealing with difficult emotions, and relational issues that need to be addressed that underlie the behavioral symptom of vomiting. Good luck to you.
