What Should I Do As I Forgot To Take Contraceptive For Days?

Hello, I gave birth to my daughter 10 weeks ago and have started to get an orangy watery discharge... I am taking the contraceptive pill but I missed it for a few days but still had sex with my husband. What could this be signs off? Thankyou for your help

Hi,

According to your description the possibilities are:
* By missing the contraceptive pills, inter-menstrual spotting can be seen due to the withdrawal effect of the reproductive hormones.
* Minor injuries during the intercourse especially due to recent delivery, can also lead to Little blood stained discharge.
* As you have not used the contraceptive pills as per the schedule the possibility of pregnancy with implantation spotting may also be considered.

So, if you do not get your periods as expected better to go for blood test pregnancy to rule out the possibility. If it gives serum beta HCG levels of less than 5 mIU/mL, the possibility of pregnancy can be excluded. And then onward, try to use the contraceptive pills as per the schedule so that inter-menstrual spotting can be avoided.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
