What Should I Do For The Sore Lower Back And Cold?

Hi I am Donna: I have a cold and my lower back is really sore, making it difficult to move. I tried heat and that seemed to make it worse, so now I am using cold packs and advil which is helping. But I wonder if I should try the hot and cold method. It has been 3 days, with some improvement. any other ideas. What would massage do?
Thanks
