What Should I Do For Weight Gain After Taking Depakote And Seroquel?

I am a psychiatric patient who has been on 1000 mg Depakote and 800 mg Seroquel every day. Before this regimen, I was 120 pounds. Now I am 220 pounds and it has been one year since I started this regimen. I am scared! I now go to the gym 6-7 times a week and eat healthy foods, but I have not lost any weight. What should I do?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Many medications including psychiatric medications can cause weight gain. They do this by varied means such as altering the appetite, changing metabolism, affecting activity levels.

If you continue exercising frequently and using healthy food options the weight should decrease. Because it is sometimes difficult to lose weight on your own, you may want to consult a bariatrican (weight loss doctor) or a nutritionist.

I hope this helps
