Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i believe that i may have aspergers or what they call high end of the autism spectrum disorder 9 out of 10 syumptoms i thought were just my personality and were a since of wonderment about myself. What made me begin thinking this is i have a son who no matter how much i want to deny is different and i read some of the twin studies on autism which basically prove that it is genetic to me anyway. What do I do next?
Some adults could go on living with undiagnosed autism spectrum disorder (ASD) for most of their life facing social and work difficulties. However, receiving an ASD diagnosis later in life can be helpful, because it gives access to helpful services and support. It is challenging to make the diagnosis for an adult. Self assessment tests are a good start. Nevertheless, it is important to know that for ASD there is no cure, but many people find ASD an essential part of their identity and does not require treatment.
A therapist, psychiatrist, neurologist can help ASD patients manage their symptoms. Managing the symptoms include: Autism education, therapy for work stress or feeling isolated, vocational rehab, and medication for anxiety if needed. Those recommendations also apply to the case of your child. It is easier to diagnose ASD in children too. The earlier the intervention could help the child feel better about himself and cope faster with his condition.
