Hello,
Your sister is suffering from slip disc. In the neck, it can cause
neck pain, headaches and pain in the face, shoulders arms and hands. When the
slipped disc presses on the nerves in the neck, it may cause numbness or pins and needles in the face, shoulder, arm or hand.
This may also cause weakness of the shoulder, elbow, wrist or hand movements. The pain from slip disc can range from dull pain to extremely
severe pain. This is commonly seen in posterior slip
disc prolapse or herniation. Slip disc at L4-L5 causes backache, tingling/numbness, leg pain or weakness, etc.
Your sister is suggested to get clinically examined by an Orthopedics and get X-ray, CT and MRI done so that the pathology is detected and treatment started at the earliest. She will be given conservative therapy, CBT,
massage therapy by physiotherapist. She will be recommended surgery(minimum invasive) only if needed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
