What Symptoms Should Be Noticed On Accidental Intake Of Ibrufen By Infant?

Hi, My 18-months old just got hold of a 400 mg Ibuprofen tablet. I managed to get it out of his mouth immediately so it was barely wet and all in one piece so I don t think he swallowed any but in case he did should I take him to hospital? What are the warning signs to look out for?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
After reading the events that you have posted, it appears that the child has not swallowed the tablet completely and you have taken out in time.
Hence, there is nothing to panic and it is not an emergency to visit hospital.
In case it has been swallowed, the child would feel discomfort in the upper abdominal region and could vomit as the drug is a gastric irritant.
Give the child good quantity of water and liquid foods for a day or two. Kindly wait and watch. In case of any unusual symptom happening, kindly ssek medical attention immediately.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
