What Tests Are Recommended To Test For Mass In Breast?

My wife just had blood tests and her white blood count was 3.62, a bit low, everything else was normal. She has had normal mammograms but during her exam her doctor thought she should get an ultrasound on her breast because she thought she felt a small mass. What does all this mean?

Hi,

Normal mammograms are very reassuring and finding a small lump or mass is NOT unusual as all, in fact what is called FIBROCYSTIC DISEASE is very common and small masses or lumps due to changes in hormone levels is the usual finding here. The ultrasound is still a good idea just to confirm this but in the vast majority of women with a history of normal mammograms I am expecting this is entirely normal due to monthly hormone changes. Looks like the physician is being very thorough and while I do not suspect anything will be found here, I do agree that it is better to be safe on all fronts.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
