What Tests Are Suggested For Recurring Pancreatis?

What kind of test can be done to find out what causes recurring pancreatitis? My husband has had xrays, MRI and CT scan. None of these show the problem. Is there another test that can be done to look into the pancreas and see if there is a problem there? Each time the doctors put him back on food, he has a reoccurrence. Has been in the hospital for 12 days.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of recurring pancreatitis in your husband, had X-rays, MRI, CT scan, none of them showing any problems.
Pancreatitis can be demonstrated on CT and MRI well.
If this is not seen then ERCP by a Gastroenterologist can show the cause and effects and can be therapeutic by doing stenting .
Also serum amylase and lipase can increase as well as ESR and have to watch for development of diabetes.
Liver function tests can show elevated alkaline phosphatase and GGT.
You have to be under the treatment of a Gastroenterologist Medical as well as surgical.
Diet to be modulated.
Strict alcohol abstinence.
Pancreatitic enzyme supplements can help.
