What To Do For Frequent Tonsillitis And Ear Pain?

One of my friend is getting tonsilitis frequently. Within last 3 months she has suffered from tonsilitis for more than 7 times. Now as a complication, she is having an infection in her ear also. Is it ok to go for a tonsilectomy? I want to know what are the acute and chronic complications occur due to a tonsilectomy.
