Male 55 otherwise healthy, no allergies to meds, takes only sleep Rx hs. Presents with poison oak/ ivy on hands and in eye partially closed 4 days ago. Treat with Benadryl 25mg q 6h Hands and eye resolved, now returns with rash and swelling left arm from wrist to shoulder. Skin appears hard and blotchy. Prednisone 20mg and tetracycline 100mg on hand. Please advise thankhanks
I can understand your concern for the rashes, hard and blotchy skin with swelling on arm from wrist to shoulder. I can make a possibility of Allergic dermatitis. In Allergic dermatitis there are eruptions along with moderate itching and in more aggravated cases there is appearance of more redness which persist for more than multiple of days.
The only precaution you must follow is not to touch, pinch pop or squeeze any of them other wise it can get infected and can cause complications.
You can apply medium potency steroid cream application of fluticasone cream.
You can additionaly give antihistamine benadryl or loratadine by mouth. If the things are not getting better then can meet a dermatologist for further guidance. Take care.
