My daughter jumped into a lake while pinching her nose to hold out water. She blew out while still having her nose pinched and her ears popped. No pain at the time. Several hours later she is inconsolable with pain. What can I do to help? Burst ear drums or just swimmers ear?

Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Praveen G's Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM,
There will be a tube connecting between nasopharynx and the middle ear, whenever the nose us pinched it will increas the pressure in the middle ear.
Whenever there is increased pressure in the middle ear it will irritates the opening of the eustachian tube and leads to these symptoms.
I would suggest you to consult ENT surgeon for physical examination and to find out the exact cause for the symptoms by otoscopic examination. Thank you.
