What To Do For Sickness After Stopped Taking Metformin For Lactic Acidosis?
My wife has been told to stop taking metformin cold turkey because of symptoms of lactic acidosis. Now she has been sick for a month with the same symptoms. She is normally she is highly energetic and cheerful. I am worried about her not getting any better as time goes by. Her Dr. has taken blood tests, but nothing has shown up. Please advise. Thank you. Bob Willis for wife Lucia.
Dear Friend. Hi , I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern. Metformin can cause lactic acidosis , but it usually occurs in presence of associated renal involvement. So , i would advise you to please share with us your blood sugar levels and also to get your kidney function tests. I need your full details , to comment further. But yes , if she has developed lactic acidosis , she can't take Metformin. This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you want to discuss your issues further, you may please ask us Stay Healthy. Dr Anshul Varshney , MD
