What To Do For Swollen Ankles And Breathlessness After Drinking Beer?
When I drink beer (6-8 pints/day). particularly over 2/3 days like at Christmas, I get swollen ankles and breathlessness. Is fluid from the beer gathering around my ankles and affecting my lungs? The ankles are back to normal after 2/3 days without beer. The breathing gets back to almost normal. I am 63 and take Quinine Sulphate, 75mg aspirin, simvastatin, felodipine and allopurinol. Thanks. Allen West.
Hi, Welcome to HCM. If you have been drinking beer for a long time (More than 8-years), your liver function may have been affected leading to the this ankle swelling. This swelling occurs due to defective functioning of the liver which fails to produce enough protein resulting in oedema. This swelling can be treated using diuretics and need attention of a physician. Hope I've solved your query. Feel free to ask if you have any doubts. Regards, Dr. Sridhar Reddy
