Hi, I went to the emergency room last night and was diagnosed with an abscess on my penile shaft. They decided against lancing it and prescribed cephalexin and sulfamethoxazole. After reading accounts online, I'm worried I'm going to have to put up with the healing process for weeks or even months. Is this the best way to go?
Hello and welcome to HCM. Your concern is understandable. As an Urologist, once an abscess is diagnosed on the penile shaft, treatment without any doubt, is to get it drained, with a minor operation. Healing is also very fast, unless you're diabetic. Antibiotics are stopped over a weeks time. Hope your doubt is cleared. You may contact me by name, if you have any further doubts. Wish you a speedy recovery. Dr.Matthew Mangat.
