What To Do For The Swelling In The Foot Due To A Fall Earlier?

I fell down a few steps on thursday, I was out in a club but it didn't hurt so much at the time so I stayed out. The next day I woke up and it is soo swollen to the point where it feels tight, all bruised around my shin and feels numb. I can walk but with a limp and with my foot to the side and I find it extremely painful to walk with a straight foot and its too painful to lay my injured leg straight.. No one in my family will take me to the hospital. I've taken painkillers and anti inflamitary but still soo much pain. What do I do?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . swelling might be due to haematoma formation(collection of blood).
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain, swelling and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
