What To Do If Had Severe Stroke, Unable To Speak, Difficulty In Swallowing, Thrush On Tongue?
My mother had a severe stroke last week and is now in a nursing home. She is unable to speak and has difficulty swallowing. She has also has developed a nasty case of thrush (a thick white coating on her tongue). Is this normal for stroke victims and what can be done about it.

The thick coating on her tongue could be a fungal infection. For this reason, I would recommend consulting with her GP. Nystatin therapy could help improve her situation. Regarding the difficulty speaking and swallowing, a long time is needed for recovery. A naso-gastric tube could be a temporary solution for eating. Soft and jelly food should be given to her frequently during the day. Hope you will find this answer helpful! Kind regards!
