What Treatment Is Recommended After A Failed Knee Fusion Surgery?

my wife fell and suffered a shattered knee cap, surgery was done and now the upper half and the lower half of the knee cap have not fused together as planned. We are in a waiting period for the Dr to decide what to do next, he has simply said more surgery. The knee itself is fine and she has no restrictions on placing weight on the leg just can t bend the knee. We see the dr on Friday, my wife is anxious to know what can be done. Is there a replacement knee cap? Can the two halves be brought together?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As the knee can not be bent to best level, a revision surgery is the only and best solution. After reviewing the latest MRI plates, I can find better options for this situation as whether arthroscopic repair would be feasible or re exploration would be mandatory.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
