What Treatment Is Recommended For This MRI Test Result ?

MRI, showed diagnosis of Supraspinatus-infraspinatus conjoint tendinosis and partial thickness tearing as above, but no full thickness rotator cuff tear. Would he benefit from a steroid injection or would that not even be an option? I understand stretching along with physical therapy is usually the norm.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there and thank you for your question.

The general term for this issue would be a rotator cuff tear of the shoulder. If mild symptoms are experienced then intra-articular infiltration with cortisone could help but it would only offer temporary relief. The pain would improve and so would joint movement but it won't do anything to the tear.

Although it's only a partial tear that's involved, it can develop into a bigger or even a complete tear in the long term due to persistent inflammation. If the pain becomes worse and mobility of the shoulder becomes more limited then it would be a good idea to consult an orthopedic surgeon. Management could include repair of the tear through arthroscopic surgery with post procedure physiotherapy.

I hope this helps answer your question and good luck.
