What Treatment Is Suggested For A Torn Rotator Cuff?

I had a shoulder xray on my right shoulder for shoulder and upper arm pain which led to me getting an MRI of my right shoulder. That MRI showed I had a torn rotator cuff which is now being treated. The orthopaedic surgeon also noticed anomalies on the xray at the head of the first right rib that he said looked like and an old injury bone splinter or muscle calcifications (see uploaded x-ray). He said that he feels as though this is not significant because the first rib bone head adjacent to the anomalies looks healthy on the xray. He did however add the disclaimer that he can t guarantee it is nothing serious like a cancer. He said that dosen t even think it requires furthur studies such as a CAT scan right now. Do you agree with his opinion that this is most likely nothing serious that does not need furthur immediate tests? (Note the MRI results of the shoulder were not high enough to view first rib).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to trauma or injury.

For further assessment you may require MRI shoulder after orthopedician consultation.

For pain you can take tablet acetaminophen.

In case of tear you may require surgical intervention after consultation.

Till then restrict movement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale, Family and general physician
